Katmex Manufacturing Information

Raw plate is transformed into profiles in our primary section using currently the largest oxy-fuel, laser and, more recently bevel plasma machines available.

They are then shot blasted ready for secondary operations or fabrication, Machining operations such as weld preparations precisions bores and tapped holes, are carried out in our secondary section on a wide range of machining centres and robots. Bending of components are carried out on our down stroking pressbrakes. Fabrication are assembled before being stored ready for shipping to our customers.

primary

Description
The Primary section consists of raw plate storage area, (where up to 1500 tonnes of steel can be stored under cover). It includes six Oxy-fuel, one Laser and one plasma cutting machine, supported by Levelling and Shotblast facilities.

Oxy Fuel Cutting
Six Oxy-fuel gas cutting CNC Profiling machines.Up to twenty four torch cutting capability per machine. Each having 8 metre wide by 30 metre length cutting for multi-setups and rapid change-overs.

Laser Cutting
One 4kw laser cutting CNC profiling machine. Long bed configuration for multi-setup.

Long bed Tanaka Laser cutting machines.

Plasma Cutting
Messer bevelling Plasma machine capable of 65mm cutting and 45 degree chamfer cutting.

Cutting Overview
Our laser-cutting machine can cut up to 15mm in thickness and handle the same size plates as the gas cutting machines, having a bed size of 3 metres by 15 metres. It has a 4kw laser and produces higher tolerance work in comparison to the Gas cutting machines, with minimal distortion and superior edge finish. Both Gas and laser machines have parts cut to high sheet yield usage values; parts are programmed and nested economically together using material nesting programs from our CAD CAM system. Gas, plasma and laser machines output is between 65 to 100 tonnes per day.

Plasma bevel cutting was added in November 2006 to increase production and cut weld preparations during the cutting process. The plasma machine can also handle 3 metres by 15 metres bed size.

Short Blast & Levelling
Twin side shot blast machine capable of shot blasting a full size plate for our laser machine, and also individual parts as shown from our oxy-fuel machines. We also have a tumbler shot blast machine for smaller parts.

secondary

Description
The secondary section makes Katmex unique amongst most profiling competitors, we not only have profiling capabilities but also full facilities for forming weld preparations, and full machining capacity for additional operations such as tolerance bores, machined faces and thread forming. Also our fabrication department combines all of the above into a finished part ready for assembly.

The secondary section consists of the following...

- Two CNC robots, used for plate edge bevelling.
- Two CNC Machining centres, for plate edge bevelling.
- Two CNC Machining centres, for drilling/tapping.
- Four down stroking presses brakes.
- Three plate edge bevelling machines.
- Pyramid Rolls.
- Four roll CNC rolling machines.

Oxy fuel Robots
Large oxy-fuel plate edge bevelling robot.

Small oxy-fuel plate edge bevelling robot.

Machining Centres
Jameson bridge type vertical, large capacity machining centre.

Cincinnati vertical, high speed machining centre.

Hydraulic press brakers
Four hydraulic press brakes range in capacity from 100 to 600 tonnes. These machines bend components using pre-determined tooling to the various forms required by customer drawings.

Welding

Description
Katmex, can profile, add secondary operations and deliver within Europe, or alternatively, source parts from low cost countries in conjunction with our parent company and its network of sister plants.

Typically the illustration to the upper left is a light fabrication produced at Katmex for our various customers in Europe. Heavier fabrications, to the lower left, are produced and imported from our sister plants within the Katsushiro group.

This gives us a competitive advantage that is required with our customers in Europe, and has been in operation since 2001.

Storage & Logistics
Katmex have sophisticated logistics and transport services available. We currently import, store and deliver over 800 tonnes per month of manufactured fabrications that are imported from our parent companies overseas plants.

These parts are delivered to a Just In Time requirement from our customers. Added together with our domestic production which totals over 1600 tonnes per month of parts used to manufacture earth moving machinery.
